President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after a two-week official trip that took him to Japan and Brazil, where he engaged in high-level diplomatic and economic discussions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s international partnerships.

The presidential jet touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at about 1:20 a.m. on Thursday. On arrival, Tinubu was received by top-ranking government officials, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, as well as several ministers and presidential aides.

President Tinubu had departed Abuja on August 15, making a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Yokohama, Japan, to attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). At the summit, he participated in deliberations on Africa’s development priorities and also held bilateral meetings with world leaders and executives of Japanese firms with investments in Nigeria.

Following his engagements in Japan, the Nigerian leader travelled to Brasilia, Brazil, on a state visit at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Discussions during the visit reportedly centered on deepening Nigeria-Brazil economic ties, enhancing cooperation in agriculture and technology, as well as exploring new areas of trade and investment.

Tinubu’s diplomatic tour is seen as part of his broader foreign policy agenda to attract foreign investment, build strategic alliances, and reposition Nigeria as a key player in global economic and political affairs. His return is expected to refocus attention on pressing domestic issues as his administration enters its third year in office.
