Covenant University has reaffirmed its firm disciplinary policies for the 2025 academic year, explicitly banning students from possessing mobile phones and cooking within campus premises. This move underscores the institution’s commitment to nurturing a focused academic environment free from common distractions.
Under the updated guidelines, students are strictly prohibited from bringing SIM-enabled devices—such as smartphones or other mobile-network gadgets—to campus. Instead, they may use alternative electronics like laptops, tablets, iPads, iPods, or cameras, provided these devices do not support cellular communication. The university maintains this policy to reduce distractions and preserve academic integrity.
In addition to the phone ban, Covenant University also forbids all students from cooking in their residence halls. To compensate, the institution offers a diverse range of meals through its structured cafeteria services. This system is designed to maintain food safety, prevent fire hazards, and uphold cleanliness in student accommodations.
The university’s steadfast approach has sparked debate among students and their parents. While some express concern about limited autonomy—particularly regarding maintaining communication with family or preparing special meals—Covenant has remained resolute, emphasising that discipline and academic excellence are its top priorities.
