The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the 2025 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations, showing significant improvement in candidates’ performance alongside a marked decline in examination malpractice. The results were formally announced in Abuja on Thursday by the Registrar and Chief Executive of NABTEB, Dr. Aminu Mohammed.

According to Dr. Mohammed, a total of 92,875 candidates registered for the examinations conducted nationwide from June 16 to July 17 across 1,892 centres. Of these, 89,621 candidates — representing 96.50 percent — were successfully graded. He noted that this year’s enrolment marked a remarkable 37.08 percent increase compared to 67,751 candidates who sat for the exams in 2024 at 1,708 centres. The examinations covered 16 Engineering Trades, seven Construction Trades, nine Miscellaneous Trades, four Business Trades, and 16 General Education subjects.

Performance in core subjects recorded notable improvement, particularly in Mathematics and English Language. Out of 85,805 candidates assessed in Mathematics, 81,172 passed, representing a 94.60 percent success rate. Similarly, in English Language, 79,575 out of 85,476 candidates passed, translating to a 93.10 percent success rate. Dr. Mohammed emphasized that overall performance was better than in the 2024 session, where only 65.34 percent of candidates obtained five credits and above including English and Mathematics.

The Registrar also highlighted the significant reduction in examination malpractice. This year, 435 candidates were involved in 516 cases of misconduct, a sharp decline compared to previous years. He attributed the improvement to stricter monitoring and renewed emphasis on integrity in the examination process. Gender participation statistics showed that 57,651 males, representing 62.07 percent, and 35,224 females, representing 37.93 percent, sat for the exams.

Dr. Mohammed stressed the importance of strengthening technical and vocational education to tackle youth unemployment and drive national development. He urged government and policymakers to prioritize investment in skills acquisition, noting that the improved performance of candidates underscored the growing relevance of technical and business education in Nigeria’s economy.
