The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a major breakthrough in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector with the commencement of direct distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to filling stations nationwide, starting Monday, September 15, 2025. In line with the rollout, the company confirmed a reduction in pump prices, with fuel set to sell at ₦841 per litre in Lagos and other South-Western states, and ₦851 per litre in Abuja, Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Kwara. The ex-depot (gantry) price has been pegged at ₦820 per litre.
According to a statement released on Thursday, the initial phase of the distribution programme will cover the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Kwara, Delta, Edo, Rivers, and other South-Western states, before expanding nationwide as more trucks are deployed. The refinery emphasized that the supply chain will leverage compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks, which it said would significantly reduce logistics costs and ultimately ease the burden on consumers.
Highlighting the economic benefits, the Dangote Group stated that the transition to CNG-powered distribution could save the Nigerian economy over ₦1.8 trillion annually. The initiative is also projected to support more than 42 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by lowering energy costs, boosting profit margins, and stabilizing fuel supply. To strengthen the programme, the company revealed an investment of over ₦720 billion, which will also help revive dormant filling stations across the country.
Beyond reducing fuel prices, the initiative is expected to create new employment opportunities across the energy value chain. These include jobs for truck drivers, filling station managers, and attendants, thereby contributing to economic recovery at both local and national levels. The company underscored that the programme would not only provide cheaper petrol but also enhance efficiency in the distribution process while reducing inflationary pressures.
Calling for collaboration, the refinery invited petrol station operators, large-scale consumers, and corporate stakeholders, including telecommunications companies, to partner with the programme. It stressed that full cooperation would be vital to ensuring nationwide success and maximizing the economic impact of this groundbreaking intervention in Nigeria’s petroleum supply sector.
