The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the discovery of fake appointment letters allegedly issued to individuals claiming to be newly recruited teachers in the state. The directive follows mounting concerns over fraudulent practices in the education sector, which have raised questions about accountability and transparency in government recruitment processes.
According to a statement from the governor’s office in Akure, the scandal came to light after several individuals presented letters of appointment at various schools, only for education authorities to discover that the documents were forged. The development has sparked outrage among genuine applicants who had gone through the rigorous recruitment exercise conducted by the state government.
Governor Aiyedatiwa described the incident as “deeply troubling” and vowed that his administration would leave no stone unturned in unmasking those behind the fraudulent scheme. He stressed that the state will not tolerate acts that undermine the integrity of its recruitment processes, especially in a critical sector like education.
The governor has directed the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Ministry of Education to work closely with security agencies to trace the source of the fake letters, identify the perpetrators, and bring them to justice. He also assured citizens that genuine teachers recruited through due process would not be affected by the probe.
Reactions have continued to trail the incident, with parents and education stakeholders calling for tighter monitoring mechanisms in the recruitment system. Many expressed fears that if not urgently addressed, such fraudulent practices could not only tarnish the government’s image but also compromise the quality of education in the state.
Civil society organisations have also weighed in, urging the state government to use the investigation as an opportunity to strengthen anti-corruption measures across all ministries and agencies. They stressed that transparency in recruitment is essential to building public trust and ensuring that only qualified individuals are employed in sensitive positions.
As the investigation begins, Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding integrity in public service. He assured residents that the findings of the probe would be made public and promised that those found guilty would face the full weight of the law.
