An engineering consultant involved in the development of the Ekiti State International Cargo Airport has described the facility as a “critical economic gateway” that will transform the state’s infrastructure and boost its industrial growth. Speaking during an inspection tour of the project site in Ado-Ekiti, the engineer said the airport would play a pivotal role in positioning the state as a major hub for trade, tourism, and investment in the South-West region.
According to him, the airport was strategically designed to meet international aviation standards and handle both passenger and cargo operations. He explained that the project was conceived to attract global investors, open up new markets for local producers, and support agricultural export activities. “Ekiti is rich in agricultural resources, and this airport will enable farmers and entrepreneurs to access international markets with ease,” he stated, adding that the airport would also serve as a catalyst for logistics and manufacturing growth in the state.
The engineer further noted that the airport’s location and design were influenced by economic sustainability and environmental considerations. He said the facility was built to accommodate modern aircraft, ensure operational safety, and support the state’s long-term development goals. “Our vision is not just to build an airport, but to create a modern transportation hub that connects Ekiti to the rest of the world,” he said.
He also highlighted that the airport project had generated hundreds of jobs during its construction phase, contributing to youth empowerment and local economic activity. “The benefits of this project go beyond transportation. Speaking on the potential impact on tourism, he emphasized that the airport would enhance accessibility to Ekiti’s historical and natural attractions, including the Ikogosi Warm Springs, Arinta Waterfalls, and the state’s growing hospitality sector. “With direct air connectivity, Ekiti will become a preferred destination for tourists, investors, and business travelers,” he said.
He urged residents to support the government’s efforts to complete the project, stressing that the airport’s success would depend on public cooperation, maintenance culture, and sustained investment in related infrastructure such as roads and power supply. “The people must see this as their own project.
