LAGOS, Nigeria (FN) — Nigerian billionaire and entertainment mogul Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, says he plans to retire from active business within the next decade — a move he says will allow him to enjoy life’s finer pleasures with his family.

In an interview with social media personality OneJoblessBoy, shared on Saturday, the 50-year-old entrepreneur revealed that he intends to retire at age 60.

“By 60, I should be done with active business,” he said. “I want to travel the world, live quietly, and give my wife the best experiences life has to offer. I’ve worked hard, and I want to enjoy what I’ve built.”

Iyiegbu, best known for his hospitality empire Cubana Group, said his current focus is on building a sustainable legacy that will outlive him. “I’m not just building businesses — I’m building structures that will last and empower my children to be financially independent,” he added.

His wife, Ebele Iyiegbu, who is also a lawyer and philanthropist, praised his decision, calling it “a mark of wisdom and self-awareness.” She said, “He has given so much to his businesses and community. If he wants to slow down at 60, he’s earned it.”

Several colleagues and business associates have since applauded Iyiegbu’s announcement. Nightlife impresario Pretty Mike of Lagos commented, “Cubana is redefining success — it’s not just about money anymore; it’s about peace, family, and legacy.”

Economist Dr. Uche Anene, however, noted that such retirement goals are rare among Nigerian entrepreneurs. “Most business leaders here work until their health fails. Obi Cubana’s plan to transition early shows a maturing business culture that prioritizes succession and sustainability,” she said.

Iyiegbu, who gained national fame in 2021 after hosting an extravagant funeral for his mother in Oba, Anambra State, has since expanded his portfolio into real estate, entertainment, and luxury lifestyle ventures.

Family members told reporters that the businessman has already begun delegating some operational roles within the Cubana Group to trusted executives and family members.

“He’s preparing the next generation,” a close associate said. “He doesn’t just want wealth; he wants legacy.”

Fans across social media have praised the billionaire’s announcement, with many describing it as “inspiring” and “a lesson in balance and purpose.”

As Obi Cubana marks two decades in business, his message to younger entrepreneurs remains clear: “Work hard, enjoy life, and know when to slow down.”
