LAGOS, Nigeria (FN) — Nigerian influencer Priscilla Ojo has refuted viral claims that her husband, Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, lost his luxury fashion store to a fire during post-election protests in Tanzania. Ojo clarified that while the store was looted, it was not destroyed by fire as widely reported.
The rumor originated from a post by Nigerian Twitter user Bolaji Fesomade, who alleged that the store—reportedly valued at over 780 million Naira was “completely destroyed” in a blaze sparked by violent demonstrations following Tanzania’s tense presidential election. The tweet quickly gained traction, prompting widespread concern and speculation across social media.
In response, Ojo took to Snapchat to set the record straight. “Looted, not burnt. God is in control,” she wrote, confirming that although some items were stolen during the unrest, the building itself remained intact. Her statement came hours after the false reports had circulated widely, causing panic among fans and followers.
The couple, who recently returned to Lagos with their son after a lavish welcome-home party hosted by Priscilla’s mother, Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, have yet to issue a joint statement. As of Friday morning, Juma Jux had not publicly commented on the incident.
The protests in Tanzania erupted following the announcement of presidential election results, leading to sporadic violence and property damage in parts of Dar es Salaam. While several businesses were affected, local authorities have not confirmed any fires at Jux’s store location.
Fans and fellow celebrities have rallied around the couple, expressing relief that the damage was limited and praising Priscilla for her swift clarification. The incident has also reignited conversations about the spread of misinformation on social media and the importance of verifying news before sharing.
