ABUJA, Nigeria (FN) — The Lagos State Police Command has denied involvement in the arrest of Samuel “Sammy West” Daniels, brother of actress Regina Daniels, stating that the operation was carried out by officers from Abuja.

Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi clarified that the arrest was not executed by Lagos operatives. “The individual in question was not arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command,” Adebisi said. “The officers who effected the arrest came from Abuja with a duly signed arrest warrant.”

According to the statement, Sammy West was temporarily held at Ogombo Police Division due to the late hour of his arrest, pending transfer to Abuja for further legal proceedings.

The clarification follows a wave of public concern after Regina Daniels posted emotional messages on social media, accusing her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, of orchestrating the arrest and threatening her family. She said she would return to Nwoko to secure her brother’s release.

The case has sparked intense debate online, with many Nigerians questioning the use of federal police resources in what appears to be a domestic dispute. Hashtags like #JusticeForSammy and #ProtectReginaDaniels have trended across platforms.

Digital influencer @thepamilerin tweeted, “This is beyond disturbing. If true, it’s a gross abuse of power.”
Actress Yvonne Jegede posted, “Sending love and strength to Regina. No one should be forced into silence.”
@DrOlufunmilayo wrote, “This is not just a celebrity issue. It’s a test of our justice system.”

Some users expressed skepticism about the police’s statement, suggesting that the clarification may be an attempt to deflect public backlash. Others called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

Civil society groups have urged authorities to ensure due process and protect the rights of all parties involved. Legal experts say the case highlights the need for clearer boundaries between personal influence and law enforcement.

As of Friday, Senator Nwoko has not publicly responded to the allegations. The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has yet to issue a formal statement. The case continues to draw national attention.
