The Kano State Police Command has successfully conducted an intelligence-led clearance operation, arresting 51 suspects and recovering dangerous weapons and illicit drugs in a bid to rid the state of thuggery and related crimes. The operation, which lasted for three days from Friday to Sunday, targeted criminal hideouts across the Kano metropolis, covering areas in Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas.

The police operation covered several areas, including Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters. According to DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, the operation was part of the ongoing efforts to tackle thuggery and its associated crimes in the state.

Abdullahi stated that the command is fully determined to decisively tackle thuggery and its associated crimes. “Fifty-one suspects were arrested, and dangerous weapons and illicit drugs were recovered,” he said. The police command is committed to sustaining peace and security in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, warned against the use of weapons during traditional performances such as “Kidan Gangi.” He also expressed concern about the brandishing of weapons on social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram, stating that it glamorizes criminality and lures teenagers into gang-related activities. “Anyone caught engaging in such will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” Bakori warned.

Bakori further warned parents, guardians, and blacksmiths who are aiding or concealing the possession of weapons to desist from doing so. He vowed that they would also be held accountable under the law. The police command urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour.

The Commissioner of Police provided emergency hotlines for the command: 08032600299, 08032600300, and 08032600301. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity or crime-related information to these numbers.

The Kano State Police Command’s crackdown on thuggery is a welcome development in the state’s efforts to maintain peace and security. The command’s determination to tackle crime and hold perpetrators accountable is evident in the successful operation. The public is urged to cooperate with the police by reporting suspicious behavior and avoiding activities that could promote criminality.
