Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that the United States and Israel have crossed a major red line by attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities. Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, Araghchi vowed that Iran would defend itself by all means necessary against US military aggression and the Israeli regime’s reckless actions.
According to Araghchi, the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities were a serious escalation, and he emphasized that Iran would not back down. He also revealed that he would be heading to Moscow on Sunday for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they would hold serious consultations on the matter.
The Iranian diplomat’s comments come after US President Donald Trump announced that US warplanes had struck three Iranian nuclear sites, nine days into an Israeli bombing campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities. Trump demanded that Iran agree to end the war and refrain from possessing nuclear weapons. However, Araghchi dismissed these demands as irrelevant, stating that Iran was attacked while engaged in diplomatic efforts.
Araghchi emphasized that the world should not forget the US role in supporting Israel’s launch of an illegal war of aggression on the Iranian nation. He accused the US of betraying diplomacy and giving a green light to Israel’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The Iranian foreign minister also noted that the US and Israel have proved they only understand the language of threat and force.
In recent days, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi have held several direct talks in a bid to find a diplomatic end to the crisis. These talks began after Israel launched a series of strikes on Iran, and diplomats say they are aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The situation remains volatile, with Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz warning that Iran has crossed “red lines” and will pay a “very heavy price”. Meanwhile, legal experts warn that US involvement in Israel’s attacks could violate international law and the US Constitution.
