Labour Party’s 2023 standard bearer, Peter Obi, has once again hinted to his numerous supporters at home and abroad that he would likely contest the presidency in 2027 and would be willing to serve only one term in office. In a statement shared on his X handle, Obi provided answers to concerns raised by his supporters on topical national issues, reiterating his desire to rescue Nigeria from its current drift.

Obi emphasized his commitment to aligning with patriotic Nigerians to address pressing issues such as the killings in Benue and Zamfara, reviving the economy, and putting food on the tables of Nigerians. He stated that if a coalition is not focused on these critical issues, he would not be interested. Obi urged Nigerians to join him in rescuing the country, promising to bring stability within two years in office.

On the situation in the Labour Party, Obi revealed that the party is working tirelessly to get the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to endorse the Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party, following a Supreme Court ruling. He also expressed his belief in the rotation of government between the North and South, citing his experience as Governor of Anambra State.

Obi criticized President Tinubu’s recent visit to St Lucia, questioning the rationale behind the trip while Nigerians are struggling with various challenges. He noted that Tinubu has not spent a night in any state outside Lagos since assuming office in 2023.

Regarding his preparation for the 2027 election, Obi stated that his approach would be different, emphasizing the importance of following a non-violent approach and ensuring that the right thing is done before the announcement of results. He highlighted his priorities for the first 100 days in office, which would include prioritizing security, education, and poverty eradication, cutting costs, and shunning corruption.

Obi assured that his family would not be involved in corruption and that funds would be channeled into critical sectors. He also emphasized the need for a strong opposition in party politics and vowed that there would be no defection of elected officials to other parties under his leadership.

The former presidential candidate’s remarks have generated significant interest, with many Nigerians eagerly awaiting his next move. Obi’s commitment to addressing the country’s challenges and his vision for a better Nigeria have endeared him to many, and his potential run in 2027 is likely to attract significant attention.
