Sean “Diddy” Combs’ defense attorneys have formally requested his release on a $1 million bond while he awaits sentencing, arguing that the music mogul presents a minimal flight risk and has already served nearly half the time prosecutors may seek under sentencing guidelines.
In a detailed letter submitted to the judge overseeing the case, Combs’ legal team outlined a comprehensive proposal for his conditional release. The bond would be co-signed by Combs himself, as well as his mother, sister, and the mother of his eldest daughter. His lawyers also proposed restrictions on Combs’ travel, limiting his movements to specific areas within Florida, California, New York, and New Jersey — states where he maintains residences and where legal proceedings and attorney consultations are likely to take place.
As part of the conditions, Combs would surrender his passport and be subject to drug testing conducted by pretrial services. His defense team also agreed to all other standard terms of pretrial supervision, aiming to underscore their willingness to cooperate with court-imposed safeguards.
The bond request comes in the wake of Combs’ conviction on two federal counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Though the charges stem from incidents involving two separate victims, Combs avoided more serious charges that could have led to a longer sentence. His attorneys argue that, under the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines — which remain advisory rather than mandatory — the recommended sentencing range for the convictions is between 21 and 27 months.
“Mr. Combs has already been incarcerated for 10 months,” the defense letter states. “His sentencing exposure — which we fully respect and do not seek to minimize in any way — is in fact low, and so is any corresponding risk of flight.”
The letter frames Combs as a public figure with deep family and professional ties to the United States, someone unlikely to flee given the reduced potential sentence and his already substantial time behind bars. The legal team emphasized that Combs has demonstrated compliance throughout the proceedings and intends to continue cooperating with authorities until sentencing is complete.
Whether the court will grant the request remains to be seen. Prosecutors have yet to respond publicly to the bond proposal, and the judge has not indicated a timeline for a decision. Still, the filing marks a critical step in the next phase of the high-profile case that has drawn national attention and reignited conversations about accountability in the entertainment industry.
