A High Court in Neni, Anambra State, has sentenced Nonso Anunuobi to life imprisonment for his involvement in conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, and attempted murder. The court’s decision was delivered by Justice G.C. Anulude on July 4, 2025, after a thorough consideration of the final addresses and the weight of evidence presented during the trial.

According to the prosecution, led by Assistant Chief State Counsel Fabian Okeke, Anunuobi and his gang ambushed, shot, and robbed a victim before demanding ransom. The defense counsel, however, pleaded for leniency on behalf of the accused, citing mitigating circumstances. While the law stipulates death for armed robbery, Justice Anulude opted for life imprisonment, taking into account the peculiar circumstances of the case and the plea for mercy.

The judge emphasized that the ruling serves as a strong warning against violent crime in the state, condemning the cruelty of Anunuobi’s actions. The verdict was delivered after a painstaking trial process that lasted several years, during which damning evidence was presented against the convict.

In his judgment, Justice Anulude highlighted the gravity of the offenses but chose life imprisonment over capital punishment. The court’s decision underscores the Anambra State judiciary’s firm stance against violent crime, demonstrating its commitment to upholding justice and protecting citizen.
