A group of young professionals from the South-East region of Nigeria has launched a political pressure group, South East Progressive Ambassadors (SEPA 2027), to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. The group, during its launch in Abuja, urged Ndigbo to disregard the ongoing opposition coalition talks and instead join forces with other Nigerians in charting a new course for the country by backing Tinubu.
According to the group’s statement, signed by Convener John Ikeotuonye, Secretary Justin Nwankwo, and Leader of the Women’s Wing, Vivian Nnajiofor, the decision to support Tinubu’s re-election is driven by the need for strategic alliance, positioning, legacy continuity, youth inclusion, and national cohesion. They believe that Tinubu’s re-election would be beneficial to the South-East region and the country at large.
The group highlighted some of Tinubu’s achievements in the South-East, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission, construction of strategic roads, support to South East governors, tax reform bills, and education loan initiatives. These accomplishments, they argue, demonstrate Tinubu’s commitment to the region’s development and make him worth supporting.
SEPA 2027’s call for support is not limited to mere endorsements; rather, it aims to position its members as contributors to governance through data-driven advocacy and positive engagement with grassroots communities in the South-East. The group is determined to halt the drift of self-marginalization and ensure that the region benefits from Tinubu’s government.
The launch event was attended by leaders of other support groups, including Dr. Sulaimon Lateef Adegboyega, Ogun State coordinator of City Boy Movement. Adegboyega praised Tinubu as a man of conviction, structure, and strategic action, assuring that the South-East would benefit from supporting him.
In a broader political context, the opposition coalition’s efforts to unseat Tinubu in 2027 face challenges, with some analysts predicting internal disagreements over a consensus candidate. However, the ongoing discussions and alliances suggest a growing recognition of the need for unity and strategic planning among opposition groups.
As the 2027 general elections approach, the support of South-East professionals for Tinubu’s re-election bid adds a new dimension to the country’s political landscape. SEPA 2027’s efforts to mobilize support for Tinubu in the region will likely be closely watched by political observers and stakeholders.
