A joint security team comprising the police, military, and Nigerian Air Force personnel has neutralized at least 30 heavily armed bandits during a coordinated counter-operation in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State. The operation was launched after the bandits attacked three communities – Kadisau, Raudama, and Sabon Layi – prompting a swift response from security operatives.

According to the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, the security forces were immediately mobilized after receiving intelligence on the attacks. Reinforcements from Dandume and the Nigerian Air Force were swiftly deployed, and the team engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel, resulting in several casualties on the side of the attackers. The bandits were forced to flee, and 30 of them were neutralized by airstrikes as they attempted to escape.

Tragically, five security personnel lost their lives in the operation. The deceased include three Mobile Police officers – Insp Suleiman Ibrahim, Insp Bello Bala, and Cpl. Mohammed Lawal – and two soldiers. A civilian, Aliyu Sa’adu from Kadisau village, was also killed in the attack. The state government has expressed condolences to the families of the fallen heroes and assured them of full support.

The Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs confirmed that the attackers struck the communities around 5 pm on Monday, July 8. The ministry praised the bravery of the security forces, who successfully repelled the attackers and prevented further damage. The government reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating banditry and restoring lasting peace in the state.

The operation is a testament to the determination of the security forces to protect lives and property in Katsina State. Despite the challenges and risks involved, the joint security team remains committed to safeguarding the state’s communities. The incident highlights the need for continued support and cooperation between the government and security agencies to address the growing security challenges in the region.
