Jobberman Nigeria, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, has launched an initiative aimed at promoting inclusive employment opportunities for marginalized groups in the country. The partnership seeks to address the structural and digital barriers that prevent persons with disabilities, displaced women, and other vulnerable groups from accessing decent work.
According to a recent study, nearly 9 out of 10 employers in Nigeria do not actively recruit from marginalized groups, with 72% making no structured effort towards inclusive hiring. However, despite these challenges, 55% of persons with disabilities and 44% of displaced women have found work, largely through self-employment in creative, media, and agricultural sectors.
The initiative, which was launched at the Technology and Employment Inclusion in Marginalised Contexts Roundtable in Abuja, brings together policymakers, civil society groups, tech platforms, and private sector leaders to tackle the key barriers to employment for marginalized groups. The partnership aims to leverage a data-driven, community-based model and low-bandwidth digital solutions to ensure that young people, especially in disadvantaged areas, have access to the tools and training needed to enter the labor market.
Jobberman and the Mastercard Foundation have a proven track record of promoting inclusive employment in Nigeria. Since 2020, they have trained over 2.4 million young Nigerians and facilitated more than 600,000 job placements. The partnership’s work has shown promising results, with many young people gaining valuable skills and securing dignified employment.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote inclusive employment and economic contribution from marginalized communities. By working together, Jobberman and the Mastercard Foundation aim to create a more equitable labor market, providing opportunities for all Nigerians to contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
The partnership’s focus on inclusive employment is timely, given the growing need for businesses to prioritize diversity and inclusion. By promoting inclusive hiring practices and providing support to marginalized groups, Jobberman and the Mastercard Foundation are helping to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all Nigerians.
