The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted six trailers carrying rice and other contraband goods worth millions of naira in two separate operations. The seizures were made in the early hours of the morning in Lagos, with the NCS officers swooping down on the trailers in the Apapa and Mile 2 areas of the state.

According to a statement released by the Customs spokesperson, the intercepted goods included six trailers loaded with 900 bags of rice, 1X4 Menthol cigarettes, 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice, and other contraband items. The total duty paid value (DPV) of the seized goods is estimated to be millions of naira.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, praised the officers for their diligence and commitment to enforcing the nation’s customs laws. He emphasized that the NCS would continue to crack down on smuggling activities, which pose a significant threat to the country’s economy.

The seizures are part of the NCS’s efforts to boost revenue generation and prevent the smuggling of contraband goods into the country. The NCS has been working tirelessly to improve its operations and prevent revenue loss through smuggling.

The intercepted goods have been seized, and investigations are ongoing to identify the owners of the contraband. The NCS has warned smugglers to desist from their activities, as the service will continue to take all necessary measures to prevent smuggling and protect the nation’s economy.
