The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has handed over N692,850 in cash and phones recovered from the scene of a ghastly accident to the relatives of the victims. The accident, which occurred on July 6, involved a Mazda commercial bus with 18 passengers from Mile 2 that collided with a stationary truck at the Atura axis of Mile 2, Badagway Expressway.
According to the Unit Commander, Mr. William Manga, the accident claimed eight lives, while 13 people sustained varying degrees of injuries. Six passengers died on the spot, and two others gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital. The FRSC personnel exhibited professionalism in the rescue operation, taking the 13 injured victims to the General Hospital in Badagway for medical attention.
Manga attributed the crash to speed and reckless overtaking by the bus driver. The victims were reportedly Mile 2 traders heading to Seme to purchase goods. The FRSC’s prompt action in returning the recovered items to the victims’ families has been commended by the community.
Alhaji Tsoho Babangida, who received the money on behalf of four victims, thanked the commander for reaching out to them after the accident. Similarly, Alhaji Haruna Sanni, the Chairman of the Arewa Community in Badagway, praised the commander’s efforts, stating that the gesture demonstrated the FRSC’s commitment to serving the public with compassion and transparency.
