The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather advisory warning of widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across several regions of the country from Monday, July 21, to Wednesday, July 23, 2025. According to NiMet’s weather outlook, thunderstorms with rains are expected to hit various parts of the country, with varying intensities.
Some of the states expected to experience thunderstorms and rainfall on Monday morning include Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna. The southern region will see cloudy mornings, with moderate rainfall expected later in the day in states such as Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa.
NiMet has cautioned citizens to take necessary precautions, including securing loose objects, avoiding driving in heavy rain, disconnecting electrical appliances during storms, and staying away from tall or fragile trees. Strong winds may precede the rains, particularly in areas prone to thunderstorms. Airline operators have also been advised to seek airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for safe and efficient planning.
The three-day forecast covers weather conditions expected across northern, central, and southern regions, with varying intensities of rain and thunderstorms. Tuesday is expected to see morning showers in Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, followed by moderate to heavy rains later in the day across Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. On Wednesday, thunderstorms and rain are forecast for Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba, with more storms expected later in Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Borno, and Kebbi.
