The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the Eko Digital Training programme, a free initiative designed to equip young people in Badagry and Ikorodu areas with digital and entrepreneurial skills. The programme is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to education, youth empowerment, and technological advancement. According to the Director of Public Affairs of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Mamud Hassan, the curriculum is tailored to cover modern-day skills, including digital literacy, emotional intelligence, and an introduction to artificial intelligence.
The programme’s meticulously crafted curriculum aims to equip participants with a powerful blend of digital literacy and entrepreneurial acumen. This includes crucial modern competencies such as emotional intelligence, a key attribute for personal and professional success, and an introduction to artificial intelligence, ensuring attendees gain access to cutting-edge, high-quality education and practical training. The programme will offer a diverse array of specialized courses and modules, all tailored to arm young individuals in Lagos state with the specific skills and comprehensive knowledge required to thrive in their chosen career paths.
The training will hold simultaneously at two centres: Iba ICT Centre, Iba Town in Ojo Local Council Development Area, and the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group CBT Centre at Ikorodu Town Hall from July 28 to August 1, 2025. The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, emphasized that the training serves as a tangible manifestation of the state government’s commitment to upholding a standard of excellence across all tertiary institutions.
This initiative demonstrates the government’s dedication to driving community skills development and empowerment, ultimately contributing to the state’s economic growth and development. By providing young people with digital and entrepreneurial skills, the programme aims to tackle unemployment and enhance technological competence among Lagos’s younger population.
The Eko Digital Training programme is a strategic investment in the future of Lagos state’s youth, offering a unique chance for young people to acquire industry-relevant knowledge and competencies at no financial cost. With this programme, the Lagos State Government is poised to bridge the gap between academic curricula and the demands of the 21st-century workplace, ensuring that young people are equipped for the future.
