The All Progressives Congress (APC) is stepping up efforts to strengthen its dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a massive membership registration drive already underway in several states across the federation. At the forefront of this push is President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, with no fewer than 11 state chapters of the party pledging to deliver a combined 15.2 million votes.

According to reports, the North Central zone is leading the charge, with the APC Forum vowing to deliver six million votes in appreciation of Tinubu’s decision to return the party’s national chairmanship to the region. The six North Central states – Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau – have thrown their weight behind Tinubu’s second-term bid, with the forum’s chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, saying the region is “already in the bag” and promising to deliver six million votes for the President. This pledge is in line with the North-Central APC Forum’s earlier promise to deliver four million votes for Tinubu’s re-election, which has now been increased to six million.

Other states backing Tinubu’s re-election bid include Akwa Ibom, Edo, Benue, Oyo, and Ekiti. In Akwa Ibom, the APC is targeting 3.5 million votes, tripling what the President secured in the 2023 election. The party’s spokesperson expressed confidence that Tinubu would win the state overwhelmingly. In Edo, Governor Monday Okpebholo has promised 2.5 million votes for the President, while Benue APC has pledged two million votes. The party’s publicity secretary, James Orngunga, said the President’s support to the people has changed the narrative and that Tinubu will win with a wide margin.

The APC’s membership registration drive is also gaining momentum, with several states already commencing online registration. In Delta State, the party has commenced registration for thousands of new members who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The APC State Chairman, Omeni Sobotie, said all Local Government and Ward Chairmen across the state have been directed to register the new members without any preconditions or demands. Similarly, in Akwa Ibom, the APC has launched its online registration with a target of over three million members ahead of the 2027 general election.

The APC’s efforts to strengthen its dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections are evident in the party’s strategic mobilisation drive. With the party’s doors open to more defections from the opposition, the APC is poised to consolidate its position as the ruling party. As the registration drive continues, it remains to be seen how many more states will join the APC’s bandwagon and pledge their support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
