35 Rescued Women and Children Reunite with Families in Niger State

A heartwarming reunion took place in Niger State as 35 residents, comprising 16 women and 19 children, were reunited with their families after being rescued from bandits. The victims had been in the protective custody of the Niger State Police Command since their rescue and were finally handed over to their families.

According to the police, the victims were taken from various communities in the state, including Kagara, Tegina, and Agwara. They were rescued by police operatives after credible information was received about their whereabouts. The police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said the victims had been under police protective custody, where they received necessary support and care from the state government.

During their time in custody, the victims underwent a series of counseling and deradicalization processes, aimed at helping them recover from their traumatic experiences. The Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, noted that the victims would be reunited with their families, adding that the police would continue to provide support and care to ensure their well-being.

The rescue operation was carried out in batches, with police operatives intercepting the victims in different locations. The first batch was rescued in Agwara, while subsequent batches were intercepted on the Mekujeri-Tegina Road. A driver, Yusuf Abdullahi, who was transporting some of the victims, is currently under investigation for his alleged role in the abduction.

The reunion brings relief to the families of the victims, who had been searching for their loved ones for months. The Niger State Police Command’s efforts to rescue and reunite the victims with their families demonstrate the command’s commitment to protecting the lives and dignity of citizens. The state government’s support and care for the victims during their time in custody have also been appreciated, and it is hoped that the victims will be able to rebuild their lives and move forward from their traumatic experiences.
