A gruesome incident has shaken the agrarian community of Odigbo in Ondo State, Nigeria, after a 26-year-old man, Daniel, was beaten to death by aggrieved youths for allegedly killing and beheading his 17-year-old brother. The incident occurred on Monday and sparked a mini protest in the community.
According to eyewitnesses, Daniel was caught with his brother’s severed head, which he had placed in a bag beside a river in the community. A resident, Roland Akinkunmi, said someone raised the alarm after seeing Daniel with the bag, leading to a mob response. “I was around the palace when I heard people shouting from the Origbara area. On getting to find out what was happening, I saw Daniel holding a human head,” Akinkunmi said.
The motive behind Daniel’s alleged actions is still unknown, but some residents suspect ritual killing. The father of the two siblings is a respected police officer in the community, adding to the shock and confusion. “Daniel and Emmanuel are of the same parents, and their father is a respected police officer here. We are all in shock. How could someone do this to their blood?” Akinkunmi lamented.
The police have confirmed the incident and have launched an investigation. The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a thorough investigation, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The incident has left the community in shock, and many are still trying to come to terms with the alleged actions of Daniel. As the investigation continues, the community is hoping for justice and answers to the questions surrounding this tragic event.
