The United States government has issued a stern warning to international students holding F-1 visas, cautioning them that skipping classes, dropping out, or abandoning their academic programs without proper notification could lead to immediate cancellation of their student visas. This move is part of a broader immigration enforcement initiative aimed at ensuring compliance with visa regulations and addressing concerns about students exploiting their status.

According to the US Mission in Nigeria, students who fail to adhere to the terms of their visas and maintain their academic status risk facing severe consequences, including visa revocation and potential deportation. The mission emphasized that such actions could also lead to disqualification from obtaining future US visas, making it crucial for students to prioritize compliance. “If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your programmes of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future US visas,” the mission noted.

To avoid immigration issues, international students are advised to strictly adhere to the terms of their visas and maintain their academic status. This includes attending classes regularly, notifying Designated School Officials (DSOs) of any program changes, and staying enrolled. Failure to comply could lead to immediate termination of a student’s record in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), triggering visa revocation and potential deportation.

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that it will take a stringent approach to enforcing visa regulations, with immigration authorities using automated systems and data analytics to monitor student compliance. This move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that international students adhere to the terms of their visas and maintain their academic status.
