The Bayelsa State government has honored CSP Sentome Obi, a police officer who rejected a $17,000 bribe offered by a suspect involved in organ harvesting. Governor Douye Diri praised Obi’s gallantry, honesty, and devotion to duty, stating that the officer brought dignity and pride to the force and Bayelsa State. Diri recommended Obi for promotion to the Inspector General of Police and announced a reward of a three-bedroom flat and a car for his exemplary integrity.
The governor’s commendation came during a state executive council meeting, where he also disclosed the arrest of the abductors of Bayelsa State judge, Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro. The judge was kidnapped on June 21 in Yenagoa and held for 12 days before being rescued through a joint effort by security agencies in the state. Diri stated that everyone involved in the kidnapping has been arrested, except the gang leader, who is still on the run.
Governor Diri credited the state’s improved security architecture, including the acquisition of drones for the police and the installation of CCTV cameras in various parts of the state capital, for the successful rescue of the judge and the arrest of the kidnappers. He warned criminally-minded individuals to steer clear of Bayelsa, emphasizing that the state will not tolerate any form of crime. Diri commended the security agencies for their effort in ensuring that the state remains safe and peaceful.
