A disturbing incident has occurred in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, where a newly recruited soldier, Dauda Dedan, allegedly stabbed a police constable, Aaron John, to death. The incident happened on Monday at 9 p.m. in Mayo-Goyi, a suburb of Jalingo town, while Constable John was trying to intervene in a dispute between the soldier and some residents.
The police have confirmed that the soldier is currently at large and have reported the matter to the 6 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army. According to James Lashen, the Police Public Relations Officer, the army is investigating the matter and has assured the police of tracking down the suspect to face the full wrath of the law. Both the army and police are working hand in hand to apprehend the fugitive soldier.
The police and army have visited the suspect’s house and are working together to ensure he is arrested and brought to justice. Lashen emphasized that the relationship between the two security agencies is very cordial, which will facilitate their collaboration in resolving the situation.
The late Constable John had been alerted to a misunderstanding between some residents of the area where he was stabbed by the soldier. The incident has raised concerns about the relationship between security agencies and the community, and the need for prompt action to prevent such incidents in the future.
