The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has categorically denied rumors of a shutdown, stating that its operations remain fully active and stable. In a statement released by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the refinery’s management assured the public that truck loading activities have not been suspended, and production continues uninterrupted. This clarification comes amid recent reports alleging a shutdown of operations, which the refinery attributes to unfounded rumors sponsored by unscrupulous individuals.
The refinery reaffirmed that the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, remains ₦850 per liter. This price stability is crucial for Nigeria’s energy security, and the refinery is committed to maintaining uninterrupted fuel supplies. According to the management, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery consistently supplies over 40 million liters of PMS daily, alongside steady volumes of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel). These supplies continue unabated, despite speculation suggesting otherwise.
In response to speculation about potential supply shortages and price increases, the refinery has extended a challenge to interested buyers to place immediate orders for up to 40 million liters of PMS daily and 15 million liters of diesel for the next 90 days. This move aims to demonstrate the refinery’s capacity to meet demand and debunk unfounded rumors.
The Dangote Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and Nigeria’s energy security, urging the public to disregard unfounded rumors. The refinery’s management believes that these rumors are sponsored by individuals seeking to undermine the country’s energy independence for their own selfish interests, including the importation of substandard fuels.
The 650,000-barrel-per-day Dangote Petroleum Refinery commenced diesel and aviation fuel production in January 2024 and began processing petrol in September 2024. The refinery’s operations are expected to end Nigeria’s reliance on imported refined petroleum products and boost the nation’s energy security. With its advanced predictive and preventive maintenance protocols, the refinery ensures uninterrupted operations, providing a stable supply of fuel to meet the country’s needs.
