Dr. Frederick Bolaji, a 71-year-old graduate of Babcock University, has shared his inspiring story of perseverance and determination. From growing up in Egbe, Kogi State, to building a stellar career in banking and later studying law, Bolaji’s journey is a testament to the power of hard work and resilience. Despite facing numerous challenges, including financial constraints and detention, Bolaji has emerged as a successful lawyer and banker.

Bolaji’s educational journey began in his hometown of Egbe, where he attended primary school. He later enrolled in Eruku Commercial Secondary School, despite facing financial difficulties. Bolaji’s determination paid off, and he went on to study Economics at the University of Ibadan. After completing his National Youth Service Corps, he secured a job with the International Bank for West Africa, which later became Afribank Nigeria PLC.

Bolaji’s banking career spanned several decades, during which he rose through the ranks to become a Deputy General Manager at Afribank. However, he eventually chose to voluntarily retire, citing the constant reshuffling and politics in the banking industry. After his retirement, Bolaji went on to establish his own law firm and study law at the Lagos State University.

Bolaji’s passion for law was reignited after a traumatic experience in detention, where he was wrongly accused and spent 65 days in Alagbon. This experience motivated him to study law and fight for justice. Despite his busy schedule, Bolaji successfully completed his law degree and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School.

At 71, Bolaji became the oldest PhD graduate at Babcock University. He attributed his success to his disciplined routine, which includes reading and research. Bolaji’s PhD journey was not without challenges, but he persevered and emerged victorious.

Bolaji believes that Nigerians are intelligent and resourceful, but the right systems need to be in place for them to thrive. He emphasizes the importance of discipline, consistency, and hard work in achieving success. Bolaji also notes that respect must be earned, and nothing comes cheap.
