The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a renewed internal crisis as former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has urged the party leadership to expel Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, from the party. Lamido alleged that the trio had committed anti-party activities by openly campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the 2027 general election.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Lamido expressed frustration over the party’s tolerance of what he described as a long-standing culture of impunity. He argued that Wike, Ortom, and Ikpeazu deserve disciplinary action for their actions, which he believes undermine the party’s integrity. “All those erring members, the Wikes, the Ortoms, the Ikpeazus, and others, who openly campaigned against the PDP in the 2023 elections and who say that they are going to work for APC in 2027, should be sacked from the party,” Lamido stated.
Lamido lamented that the PDP had tolerated such conduct for over 18 months, breaching its constitution, which provides for sanctions against members who violate the party’s code. He emphasized the need for the party to demonstrate leadership by punishing members who openly work against its interests. According to Lamido, politicians like Wike, Ortom, and Ikpeazu are “platform seekers” who would use any party to serve their ambitions.
As a result of the party’s inaction, Lamido announced that he would boycott PDP’s Board of Trustees meetings until disciplinary action is taken against the erring members. This move underscores the growing divisions within the party and raises concerns about its unity going forward.
The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has also issued a warning to members who have expressed support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that such actions amount to anti-party behavior and would not be tolerated. The party’s crisis deepens as it grapples with internal conflicts and disciplinary issues.
