The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has distanced itself from a circulating online publication claiming it is involved in a prepaid meter distribution initiative in Badagry, Lagos State. In a disclaimer issued on Thursday, August 14, 2025, via its official X handle, EKEDC described the claims as false and misleading.
EKEDC’s management clarified that the alleged promoters of the scheme, identified as Mr. Anthony Adekunle Ogungbemi and Engr. Daniel Adedokun, have no ties with the company. “They are neither our contractors, nor certified Meter Asset Providers (MAPs), and not staff members of the organisation,” the statement added. The company emphasized that genuine meter rollout schemes are sponsored by the Federal Government in partnership with relevant stakeholders and are always preceded by clear and comprehensive communication and public sensitization.
EKEDC explained that official metering exercises are spearheaded by Distribution Companies (DisCos), including Eko Electricity Distribution Company, and involve clear communication and public sensitization. The company urged customers to verify any prepaid meter initiative before participating, warning that it would not be held liable for any loss resulting from unauthorized metering and other electricity transactions.
EKEDC advised customers to rely only on official communication channels for updates, including its corporate website and verified social media handles. Customers can also send an email to the customer care team at customercare@ekedp.com for official information on metering programs. By doing so, customers can avoid falling prey to unauthorized metering schemes.
The EKEDC’s disclaimer serves as a warning to customers to be cautious of unauthorized metering schemes. The company’s commitment to transparency and accountability is evident in its efforts to educate customers on how to identify genuine metering initiatives. By verifying information through official channels, customers can protect themselves from potential scams.
