The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has credited President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda with making cancer treatment possible in Nigeria. Idris made this statement during a courtesy visit to Enugu State Governor, Mr. Peter Mbah, where he highlighted the positive impact of Tinubu’s policies and programs on the health sector. According to Idris, the Renewed Hope Agenda has revolutionized the health sector, enabling cancer treatment to be done in Nigeria.
Idris revealed that there are six treatment facilities in the six zones of the country, including Enugu, equipped with state-of-the-art machines similar to those found in other parts of the world. Experts have been trained to handle these machines, making it possible for Nigerians to access quality cancer treatment within the country. This development has reduced the need for medical tourism, allowing individuals to choose whether to seek treatment abroad or locally.
The minister also commended Tinubu for his efforts in improving the security situation in the country. Idris noted that the President has enabled security agencies to synergize and achieve results, leading to improved security across the nation. However, he emphasized that there is still more work to be done and that the President will continue to address the country’s challenges.
The establishment of these cancer treatment facilities is part of the Federal Government’s initiative to transform cancer care in Nigeria. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, had earlier announced the launch of the largest network of oncology and diagnostic centers in West Africa. This initiative aims to train 500 clinicians over the next three years and provide care for up to 2,000 oncology patients and 350,000 diagnostic clients annually.
The development of cancer treatment facilities in Nigeria is a significant step towards improving healthcare delivery in the country. With the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated its commitment to revamping the health sector and making quality healthcare accessible to Nigerians. As the country continues to address the challenges of cancer and other health issues, the impact of this initiative is expected to be felt across the nation.
