Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering position against negotiating with bandits, declaring that his government will not engage in dialogue with those responsible for terrorising communities in the state. The governor made the declaration on Thursday during a continuation of his condolence tour to communities recently attacked by armed groups, where he met victims, assessed the level of destruction, and pledged stronger security measures.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, Governor Lawal visited Kagara, Dan Isa, and Kasuwar Daji in the Kauran Namoda Local Government Area. The visit, which began on Wednesday, was part of a broader outreach to demonstrate solidarity with victims and to evaluate the security situation first-hand. He assured residents that his administration is committed to restoring peace and rebuilding areas devastated by the violence.
“From the onset of my tenure, I made it clear: we will not negotiate with bandits. That position remains unchanged and will not change. These criminals have consistently shown no sincerity or remorse,” Lawal stated. He emphasised that security remains the top priority of his government, adding that all available resources are being deployed to protect lives and property across Zamfara.
Beyond security, the governor also acknowledged the poor condition of roads linking the affected communities, noting that their rehabilitation would be prioritised to enhance accessibility, boost local commerce, and aid development efforts. He stressed that infrastructural improvements are essential to reducing the vulnerability of rural areas to bandit attacks.
The visits, according to the statement, underscore the Lawal administration’s determination to confront insecurity directly while simultaneously addressing underlying infrastructural challenges. The governor urged residents to remain resilient and assured them of the government’s continued support in restoring normalcy to Zamfara State.
