The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State has commended the peaceful conduct of the by-election held in the central senatorial district. Commandant Mr. Gbenga Agun made the commendation while monitoring polling units across four local government areas: Esan South-West, Esan Central, Esan North-East, and Esan South-East.

Agun attributed the success of the election to the strategic deployment of personnel and adequate security measures. The NSCDC worked closely with other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful process, assuring voters of their safety and protection of election materials. “We have deployed our men and are working closely with other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful process,” Agun said.

Although voter turnout was not massive, Agun noted that voters were casting their ballots without fear. This is a testament to the effectiveness of the security measures put in place by the NSCDC and other agencies. The NSCDC’s efforts ensured that the electoral process was smooth and devoid of violence or disruption.

The NSCDC had deployed 20,850 personnel across 12 states, including Edo, to provide security coverage during the by-elections. The corps worked in close collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, the lead agency for election security, to safeguard election officials, voters, and materials.

The peaceful conduct of the by-election in Edo State is a credit to the NSCDC’s efforts and commitment to ensuring the safety and security of voters and election materials. The success of this election is a testament to the effectiveness of the security agencies’ collaboration and strategic planning.
