The Federal University of Transportation Daura in Katsina State has matriculated 529 students, marking a significant milestone in its quest to produce world-class transport experts. Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to producing high-quality graduates who can compete globally during the university’s second matriculation ceremony.
Alkali expressed the government’s hope and aspiration to produce graduates of the highest quality who can favorably compete with their counterparts worldwide. He assured the students that the government would deliver on its mandate to disseminate specialized knowledge in all modes of transportation, producing Nigerian experts who can utilize policy, law, and industry practices to make the transport sector a pride of the Nigerian economy.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Umar Adam Katsayal, highlighted the institution’s progress and prospects. The university was established to address the dire need for transport-focused education, training, and research-based institutions in Nigeria. CCECC Nigeria Limited, the company that built the university, contributed to its development through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, providing infrastructure such as classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and dormitories. The university plans to expand its campus infrastructure, integrate modern technology in teaching, and prioritize sustainability initiatives like solar-powered facilities and green campus.
The university is set to expand its academic offerings to include programs in transportation security, aviation technology, smart transport systems, and sustainable urban mobility. Short and executive courses will also be introduced to cater to the needs of working-class individuals and executive officers. Additionally, the university plans to intensify research efforts in autonomous vehicles and green logistics, as well as sustain staff capacity building and industry partnerships.
President Bola Tinubu has expressed pride in the university’s rapid progress and has approved financing for the institution under the 2024 Appropriation Act. The Minister of Transportation commended the President’s continued support for the university and the education sector in general, urging the students to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire knowledge and become the pride of the university, their parents, and the country.
