A shocking case of murder and identity theft has come to light in Georgia, where a woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her girlfriend and assuming her identity for nearly two decades. Angel Thompson,  has been charged with the December 2007 murder of Nicole Alston, a 24-year-old woman from Manhatt

Alston’s body was discovered dismembered in a burning body bag on the side of a quiet Georgia road, with her hands, feet, and head missing. The condition of her remains led to a 16-year lag in her identification, but DNA evidence matching a relative helped authorities confirm her identity in early 2023. Investigators believe Thompson killed Alston in a fit of rage after discovering Alston’s intentions to end their abusive relationship and pursue other romantic interests.

Thompson allegedly trafficked Alston before her murder, and the two had a coercive and abusive relationship. After Alston’s death, Thompson stole her identity and collected Social Security benefits, food stamps, and Section 8 housing funds under Alston’s name for eight years. She even swapped Alston’s photo with her own on Alston’s driver’s license in 2010. Authorities described Thompson’s actions as “calculated and meticulous,” with Detective John Nanoff stating, “I’ve never seen something so calculated and meticulous before.

The investigation into Alston’s murder was reopened in 2023, and DNA evidence led authorities to Thompson. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said, “We believe this victim was trafficked prior to her murder, that this involved classic domestic violence.” Thompson’s arrest brings closure to Alston’s family, but raises questions about the extent of Thompson’s crimes and how she was able to evade detection for so long.

Thompson faces serious charges, including murder and identity theft. If convicted, she could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment. The case highlights the complexities of abusive relationships and the devastating consequences of dom bcestic violence.
