In a shocking incident that has left the community in Bama, Borno State, reeling, a 50-year-old man, Modu Isa, has survived a bizarre suicide attempt after cutting off his genitals over his estranged wife’s refusal to return to him. According to reports, Isa’s drastic action followed Bayanxe Modu’s decision to end their marriage, which apparently drove him to the edge.

Isa reportedly stabbed himself three times in the stomach before cutting off his genitals, uttering a chilling statement, “If Bayanxe cannot have him, then his thing too must go.” Neighbors rushed him to the General Hospital in Bama, where doctors performed an emergency procedure to reattach his severed organ, jokingly referring to it as “Operation Return Gbola”. The medical team’s swift action saved Isa’s life, but the incident has sparked a heated debate in the community.

While some residents sympathize with Isa’s heartbreak, others are baffled by his actions. One resident quipped, “Instead of cutting onions for stew, he was cutting his thing,” highlighting the absurdity of the situation. An elderly man, who refused to be named, even remarked, “This is not a suicide attempt; this is a Borno comedy show. Only here can a man lose his manhood on Friday and get it back on Sunday.” The community’s divided opinion on the matter reflects the complexity of human emotions and relationships.

The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, promised to provide more information, but had not done so as of press time.

Isa’s desperate measure has raised questions about the lengths people will go to in the name of love and the devastating consequences of rejection. As the community grapples with the aftermath of this incident, it serves as a reminder of the importance of emotional support and the need to address relationship issues in a healthy and constructive manner.
