The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping and brutal murder of a five-year-old boy, identified as Wisdom Obodoagu. The suspects, Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom, 18, who is the victim’s second cousin, and Sunday Michael, 24, a security guard, were apprehended on August 11 and 12, 2025, following intelligence-led investigations.

Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Wednesday, explaining that the case was first reported after the child went missing on July 26. He said preliminary investigations revealed that the prime suspect conspired with his accomplice to demand a ransom of ₦1,000,000 from the victim’s father in a bid to disguise his identity.

According to the police, when the ransom demand went unmet, the child was killed and buried in a bush near their residence in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area. “During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime,” Ndukwe stated, adding that the prime suspect later led operatives to the shallow grave where the body was recovered in the presence of medical personnel, including a doctor, who confirmed the child dead.

The disturbing case has drawn widespread shock, given the family ties between the victim and the alleged mastermind. The police emphasized that the arrests followed prompt intelligence gathering and vowed that the suspects would face justice once investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has commiserated with the bereaved family over their tragic loss. He assured that the command remains committed to ensuring justice, stressing that the suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are finalized.
