Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with an ongoing investigation into his tax compliance over the purchase of a luxury Lamborghini. The incident, which has sparked widespread public attention, stems from concerns surrounding the registration and tax obligations linked to his recently acquired yellow Lamborghini.
In an official statement released by his management on Wednesday, August 20, it was confirmed that the musician had voluntarily reported to EOCO’s headquarters alongside his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, to cooperate with the authorities. However, during the course of the engagement, he was unexpectedly detained for further questioning. The development immediately raised concerns among fans and industry watchers, many of whom took to social media to express both shock and support for the artiste.
Shatta Wale’s management urged calm among supporters, stressing that the legal team was fully engaged with EOCO to resolve the matter. “We appeal to fans to stay calm and avoid unnecessary speculations,” the statement read, emphasizing their trust in Ghana’s judicial process. They further confirmed that both management representatives and his legal counsel would return to EOCO the following day to continue discussions with investigators.
The detention comes just days after Shatta Wale went viral on social media when videos surfaced of his newly imported purple Lamborghini Urus being offloaded from a shipping container in Ghana. The purchase of two luxury cars in quick succession had already attracted public attention, and now the EOCO probe has intensified scrutiny surrounding the artiste’s financial dealings.
Management assured the public that updates will be provided as new developments unfold. For now, all eyes remain on the outcome of EOCO’s investigation, which could have significant implications for one of Ghana’s most prominent and outspoken entertainers.
