The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a formal rebuke after Olakunle Alex Folarin, a former staff member, appeared on a matchmaking programme hosted on Lege Miami’s social media platforms. The Commission reiterated that he has no current affiliation with the agency and described his participation as both “misleading and inappropriate.”

Dismissal Tied to Alleged Certificate Forgery
Folarin, who previously worked as a driver at the Ibadan Zonal Directorate, was terminated by the EFCC following allegations of certificate forgery. The Commission affirmed that his dismissal was fully justified and emphasized that his recent public appearance should not be seen as a reflection of the EFCC’s standards or professionalism.

Chairman Orders Arrest Over Unreturned Official Property
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has authorized the arrest of Folarin for unlawfully retaining Commission property—most notably his EFCC identity card and other official items that should have been surrendered upon his dismissal.

EFCC Warns Public Against Misrepresentation
In its statement, the Commission urged the public to disregard any post-dismissal conduct by Folarin and to refrain from associating his actions with the EFCC. It stressed its unwavering commitment to integrity and transparency, warning that mischaracterizations such as these can undermine public trust.

Maintaining Institutional Integrity Amid Controversy
This incident underscores the EFCC’s dedication to upholding accountability. By promptly distancing itself from Folarin, pursuing legal action for retention of official property, and clarifying the circumstances of his dismissal, the Commission aims to reinforce the high ethical standards expected of its personnel—past and present.
