Nigerian international Victor Boniface has publicly lashed out at renowned transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano following the collapse of his much-anticipated move to AC Milan. The proposed deal—a €5 million loan with a €24 million buy option—fell through after the striker reportedly failed the club’s stringent medical checks. Romano confirmed on X that Milan called off the transfer due to the medical outcome.

Fan Backlash Fuels Boniface’s Fury
Social media swiftly piled on criticism, with fans pointing to Boniface’s social media exuberance—especially a viral TikTok live where he playfully engaged with users—as a sign of unprofessionalism. One user urged him to “reduce your social-media lifestyle,” while another questioned the wisdom of presenting himself as a “walking meme,” given his injury history.

Boniface Fires Back: “Clowns Everywhere”
In response, Boniface took to Instagram, unleashing a now-deleted story that read: “Clowns everywhere. I dey club like Leverkusen and club like Milan want me and I no serious…” His words were a defiant counter to the suggestion that his online presence undermined his professionalism.

Medical Concerns at the Heart of the Deal’s Breakdown
Contrary to public narratives, credible reports clarify that the deal collapsed not over character or image—but due to legitimate medical concerns. AC Milan’s detailed examinations uncovered red flags in Boniface’s right knee, particularly scar tissue and structural issues linked to two prior ACL injuries. Club officials maintained that the decision was based solely on medical prudence, not his talent or persona.

With the Milan deal dead, Boniface has returned to Bayer Leverkusen, where he must now demonstrate resilience and fitness. Leverkusen’s sporting director has ruled out revisiting the Milan option—unless his condition significantly improves. While the setback stings, Boniface remains a key attacking talent. If he can recover fully, future suitors may still knock.
