A prominent US legal practitioner, Attorney Asukwo Mendie Archibong, has strongly condemned the recent tragic shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, describing the incident as “a preventable act of violence that has no place in any civilized society.” In a press statement released on Thursday, Archibong expressed deep sorrow over the lives lost and the trauma inflicted on students, staff, and families within the school community.
Archibong emphasized that such incidents highlight the urgent need for the United States to re-examine its approach to gun control. According to him, no student should fear attending school, and no parent should be forced to worry about whether their child will return home safely. He noted that the continued proliferation of firearms in the hands of civilians creates an unsafe environment where tragedies like the Minneapolis shooting are increasingly inevitable.
Archibong urged the U.S. government to take decisive steps toward enforcing stricter laws on gun ownership, including a complete ban on firearms for civilians. He argued that public safety must take priority over any political or commercial interests tied to the gun industry. “The right to life and security must always come before the right to bear arms,” Archibong asserted.
Furthermore, Archibong called for immediate policy reforms and practical enforcement measures, stressing that the government cannot continue to issue statements of sympathy without translating them into actionable change. He appealed to lawmakers to show courage by implementing laws that reflect the needs of a modern society where schools, places of worship, and public gatherings should remain safe havens rather than danger zones.
In his conclusion, Archibong expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and the entire Minneapolis Catholic School community. He pledged his continued advocacy for stronger global measures to curb gun violence, noting that tragedies of this nature must serve as a wake-up call to governments everywhere. “We must all stand together to ensure this never happens again,” he said.
