In a dramatic intervention in Akwa Ibom State, police have arrested seven suspected cultists caught with a human skull, a firearm, and ritual paraphernalia in their alleged hideout. The arrest, made in Ikot Osura, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, stems from a chilling attack on a former cult member who had renounced his affiliation.
DSP Timfon John, the state’s police spokesperson, revealed that the suspects are linked to the proscribed “Ku Klux Klans” confraternity. The operation followed an August 25, 2025 report from a student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osura. He claimed he was ambushed by cult members along Ikot Osura, sustaining severe injuries and losing his Redmi 13C smartphone and ₦41,000 in cash.
Acting on the lead, police launched a targeted operation on August 28, 2025, which led to the arrest of seven individuals: Douglas Ambe Esikhene, Stephen Asukwo Effiong, Saviour Dany Akpan, Emmanuel Friday Umoh, Augustine Uduak Okon, Mary Ating Asukwo, and Itohowo Christopher Uko.
During a search of their hideout, authorities recovered serious items including a locally made short-range shotgun, seven live cartridges, a fresh human skull, a bottle containing what is suspected to be “black oil,” and another bottle of Guyanese oil—both believed to have ritualistic uses.
DSP John confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with law enforcement working to apprehend any additional members of the cult and seize further evidence. The police continue to build their case as they protect public safety and seek justice for the victim.
