Authorities in Los Angeles have launched a major investigation after human remains were discovered inside a Tesla registered to American singer D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke. Police said the grisly find was made on Monday after staff at a tow yard reported a foul odour coming from the impounded vehicle.
According to officials, the black Tesla, bearing Texas license plates, had been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills for about five days before it was towed. Detectives said the car had likely been at the tow yard for “a couple of days” when officers made the shocking discovery. Local reports indicated that a head and torso were found inside a bag stored in the vehicle’s front trunk. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed the remains belonged to a female estimated to be 5ft 2in tall and weighing around 70 pounds. Distinguishing features included wavy black hair, a tube top, black leggings, and a tattoo on her right index finger reading “Shhh…”.
So far, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest. Police have also not confirmed the ownership details of the Tesla. However, CBS News reported that the vehicle is registered to the 20-year-old singer, who is best known for his viral hits Here With Me and Romantic Homicide.
A spokesperson for D4vd confirmed that the artist, currently on tour, has been informed of the situation and is “fully cooperating with the authorities.” Despite the ongoing investigation, D4vd performed in Minneapolis on Tuesday night, continuing his concert schedule.
The disturbing discovery has gripped Los Angeles, with aerial footage aired by local station KTLA showing investigators clustered around the Tesla as the crime scene unfolded. While the identity of the victim remains unknown, the LAPD and the Medical Examiner’s Office have vowed to pursue all leads as questions mount over how the remains came to be inside the vehicle.
