Veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that he had passed away. In a video message posted on his Instagram page on Friday, the popular actor assured his fans, friends, and family members that he is alive, healthy, and in good spirits.
The comic actor, known for his unique use of proverbs in films, urged the public to ignore the false information, describing it as the handiwork of mischief-makers. “Chief Chiwetalu Agu, okenmiri n’ezoru Oha 1 of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State, is not going to die anytime soon. Instead, I will be the one to bury my enemies. Na who dig pit go fall inside, na who dig grave go fall inside. I am yet to carry my grandchildren, and I must carry them in good health when my children are ready,” he said in the video.
Agu further explained that if a major blogger had been behind the rumour, he would have considered taking legal action for defamation and business damages. However, he noted that the source of the false news was a relatively unknown blogger seeking attention. He advised fans to report the account responsible for spreading the rumour.
Expressing his disappointment at how quickly the news spread, the actor lamented that many Nigerians in 2025 still fall victim to unverified stories on social media. He encouraged the public to always confirm facts before sharing them, stressing that such unverified rumours could cause unnecessary panic among loved ones.
Reassuring his fans once again, Agu concluded that he remains strong and committed to his craft, adding that he looks forward to enjoying a long life with his children and future grandchildren. He called on the public to disregard all reports suggesting otherwise and instead celebrate life and truth.
