President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has joined millions of Nigerians and music lovers worldwide to celebrate the 50th birthday of Afropop legend, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba.
In a statement issued on Friday, the President extolled the contributions of the award-winning artiste to Nigeria’s entertainment industry, describing him as one of the nation’s greatest cultural exports. He praised 2Baba’s resilience, creativity, and his embodiment of the indomitable Nigerian spirit that continues to inspire new generations.
“For more than two decades, 2Baba has serenaded us with soulful melodies, uplifted us with inspirational songs, and proudly carried the Nigerian flag across the globe,” Tinubu said. “His timeless hit, African Queen, is more than just a love ballad; it is an evergreen masterpiece that introduced African music to the world stage and positioned Nigeria as a hub of global entertainment.”
The President also highlighted 2Baba’s patriotism beyond the stage, noting his consistent use of music and public influence to champion peace, unity, and good governance. According to Tinubu, the singer’s advocacy for social justice and civic participation has marked him out as more than an entertainer but also a voice of conscience.
“2Baba has not only given us music; he has given us hope, courage, and a sense of national pride,” Tinubu added, commending the singer’s active role in community development and youth empowerment initiatives across the country.
As the globally celebrated musician marks his golden jubilee, the President offered prayers for his continued health, happiness, and fulfillment in the years ahead. Tinubu expressed optimism that the music star would continue to inspire Africa and the world with his artistry and humanitarian efforts.
2Baba, who rose to prominence in the early 2000s as part of the Plantashun Boiz group before launching his solo career, remains one of Africa’s most decorated and influential artists. Over the years, he has won multiple awards, collaborated with international acts, and consistently remained relevant in Nigeria’s dynamic music scene.
The President’s tribute reflects the broad admiration that 2Baba enjoys across political, cultural, and generational divides, underscoring his enduring legacy as a musical icon and a unifying figure in Nigerian society.
