The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has successfully concluded its ward congresses, electing new executives across all 214 wards of the state. The exercise, which took place simultaneously in various localities, was described as peaceful and orderly, with party stakeholders commending the process as a step toward strengthening internal democracy ahead of future elections.
Reports from across the wards indicated a strong turnout of party faithful, who participated actively in the selection of their new leaders. The congress was monitored by officials from the PDP national secretariat as well as representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ensuring transparency and credibility in the conduct.
According to party leaders, the exercise was aimed at producing grassroots executives who will play a crucial role in mobilizing support, driving membership engagement, and consolidating the party’s influence ahead of the 2027 general elections. They emphasized that the newly elected officers will serve as vital links between the party’s leadership and its supporters at the community level.
In his remarks, the state chairman of the PDP, Sunday Bisi, hailed the outcome of the congress, noting that the smooth conduct of the exercise reflected the unity and determination of members to reposition the party for victory in coming elections. He urged the new executives to work diligently in their respective wards, stressing the importance of inclusiveness and loyalty in party affairs.
Party stakeholders also highlighted that the ward congresses form the foundation for subsequent congresses at the local government and state levels, where new leadership structures will be constituted to oversee broader political strategies. They maintained that the PDP in Osun is better positioned than ever to reclaim political dominance, citing the enthusiasm witnessed during the exercise as a positive signal.
Observers and analysts have described the ward congresses as critical in shaping the PDP’s preparedness for the political battles ahead, particularly given the increasing competition with rival parties in the state. They also noted that the peaceful outcome could boost the PDP’s image as a party capable of organizing itself around democratic ideals.
With new executives now in place across all 214 wards, the PDP leadership expressed confidence that the grassroots structure would provide the foundation for robust political campaigns and improved engagement with the electorate. The development, they said, marks the beginning of a renewed push to consolidate the party’s presence and influence in Osun State’s political landscape.
