The Department of State Services (DSS) has questioned former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), over the recent attack on his convoy in Kebbi State. The incident, which occurred last week, left several people injured and heightened security concerns in the northwestern state.

Sources within the security agency confirmed that Malami was invited to clarify details surrounding the attack, particularly the circumstances leading to the assault and the identities of those involved. The DSS reportedly sought his account to aid ongoing investigations into the motives behind the incident and the possible involvement of political or criminal elements.

Witnesses said Malami’s convoy was ambushed while he was on a visit to his hometown in Birnin Kebbi. Though the former minister escaped unhurt, vehicles in the convoy were damaged, and some aides sustained injuries. The brazen nature of the attack has since triggered public outcry and renewed debate over rising insecurity in the region.

Malami, who served as Nigeria’s chief law officer from 2015 to 2023, was said to have fully cooperated with investigators during the questioning. He reportedly provided a detailed narration of events and pledged support for security agencies in their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, political observers have linked the incident to local rivalries, noting that Kebbi has recently witnessed heightened political tension following disputes over resource allocation and party dominance. However, authorities have cautioned against speculation, stressing that only a thorough investigation would reveal the truth.

The DSS, in a brief statement, assured the public that investigations were ongoing and that those found culpable would face the full weight of the law. It also urged citizens to remain calm while security agencies work to unravel the circumstances behind the attack.

As the probe continues, residents of Kebbi are demanding stronger measures to guarantee safety in the state, with many insisting that high-profile attacks such as this underline the urgent need for enhanced security presence in vulnerable communities.
