The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State chapter, has expressed confidence that former governor Rashidi Ladoja will excel in his new role as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, describing him as a leader with rare qualities that will distinguish his reign. The religious body noted that his wealth of experience in governance and commitment to peace and unity would serve the ancient city well.

In a statement issued on Thursday, CAN commended Ladoja’s humility, wisdom, and dedication to service, stressing that his past achievements as governor and elder statesman had already proven his capacity to lead with fairness and integrity. The association further described his ascension to the revered throne as a blessing not only to Ibadanland but also to Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.

According to the group, the new monarch’s deep understanding of grassroots issues and his ability to carry people along regardless of social, ethnic, or religious differences will set him apart from his predecessors. CAN maintained that Ladoja’s inclusive leadership style would promote harmony among the diverse communities that make up the Ibadan traditional council.

The religious body also urged the incoming Olubadan to continue using his influence to promote peace, unity, and development in Ibadanland. It emphasized the need for traditional rulers to play active roles in supporting government efforts to tackle insecurity, poverty, and other socio-economic challenges confronting the people.

While congratulating Ladoja on his elevation, CAN called on residents of Ibadan to rally behind the new monarch, noting that collective support was vital for the success of his reign. The group also assured him of its continuous prayers and partnership in ensuring that his rule would be marked by progress and stability.

The association expressed optimism that under Ladoja’s kingship, Ibadan would witness greater cultural revival, infrastructural development, and improved social cohesion. It added that his experience in politics and governance placed him in a unique position to bridge traditional authority with modern leadership.

Observers say Ladoja’s emergence as Olubadan has been widely celebrated across political, religious, and social circles, with expectations that his reign will open a new chapter of peace and development for the ancient city. His coronation is anticipated to attract national and international attention, reaffirming Ibadan’s status as one of Nigeria’s most influential traditional institutions.
