ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — A young Nigerian lawyer who was abducted after attending a Call to Bar ceremony has been released, according to a statement issued Monday by senior legal practitioner Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro.
Peace Onyesom Udoka, Esq., was reportedly taken while returning from the ceremony. Her release was confirmed by Akinboro, who expressed gratitude for what he described as swift efforts by Nigerian security agencies, including the police and army.
He also acknowledged the role of the legal community, particularly young lawyers who used social media to draw attention to Udoka’s abduction.
“This solidarity reflects the spirit of our profession, standing together in times of trial,” Akinboro said.
Udoka’s family was congratulated in the statement, which called her safe return a source of renewed hope and urged continued work toward a Nigeria where citizens can live without fear.
